“We are all wanderers on this earth. Our hearts are full of wonder and our souls are deep with dreams.” ~Gypsy proverb
I love dreams. I love dreaming. But most of all, I love dreamers.
Dreaming is a natural part of being human. Whether sleeping dreams or daydreams, we all do it to some extent. But dreamers are different. They skip over the small stuff and go straight for pie-in-the-sky. They’re not ones to let reality get in the way of a good dream.
Somewhere over time, being labeled as a dreamer has taken on a negative connotation. It implies that a person is unrealistic and unlikely to achieve any success in the real world. How sad! Obviously, some small-minded, boring person came up with that association. Yes, dreamers do face more than their fair share of disappointment but as they shoot for the moon, they also catch plenty of stars along the way.
I like to believe I’m a bit of a dreamer. My mother used to always tell me that I’ve been around the world twice in my mind. And while it’s true that I haven’t accomplished even a fraction of the things I hope to, I have had some pretty awesome adventures over the years…a solo trip to Bimini to swim in the middle of the ocean with wild dolphins, two weeks exploring the Highlands of Scotland…and my personal favorite, a cross-country road trip 22 years in the making. Each one of those seemed unrealistic at some point. But with a little focused intention and a whole lot of divine intervention, they turned out to be dreams come true.
Right now, I’m in the middle of another pie-in-the-sky dream…to get out of the corporate grind and do something hugely creative with my life. I’m halfway there. For better or worse, I’ve served Corporate America with divorce papers. That’s not to say I won’t go back for the occasional booty call while I’m still looking for “the one” but my commitment to the corporate world is over. I’m listening to the dreamer in me and I’m building a new life now.
What are your pie-in-the-sky dreams? Do share! Sometimes the very act of expressing them sets the ball in motion to achieving them. This a judgement-free zone and I promise if you tell me, I will unconditionally support you. Hell, if it’s a really good one, I might even want to come along for the ride!
And dreamers, until next we meet, let’s all remember to shoot for the moon and catch some stars along the way…
